A few years ago, just beginning to get serious about digital photography, I was curious to know & learn how to photograph waterfalls in a way that made the water seem “fluffy” or to give it a feathery look. Now, more than six years later, I’m still chasing waterfalls and hope to locate them all, one cascade at a time!

Looking Glass Falls, shown here, is one of the most iconic & popular waterfalls in all of Transylvania County, NC. Also worth mentioning, this is fast-becoming a popular swimming hole during hot summer months. To begin your own waterfall chase, start with Looking Glass Falls. This is one of those “roadside waterfalls” that’s a great place to start your journey. There is no hike needed, although you’ll need to walk a few steps down to the base of of this hugely popular cascade.
Chasing waterfalls is no small task. Given the sheer numbers of cascades in Transylvania County alone, this self-inflicted challenge keeps me excited about living in Western North Carolina. This truly is an amazing place to live!
Hiking to these waterfalls is a great way to see Pisgah National Forest, Headwaters State Forest, DuPont State Recreational Forest, Nantahala National Forest, and Panthertown Valley.
Come back often and read about the waterfalls we’ve visited thus far. You might just figure out how you, too, can become a fan of these gorgeous, breath-taking cascades in Western North Carolina.
